World War Two Iwo Jima Photos: Japanese Dead, Crashed Planes, Nose Art, Tanks
Incredible World War Two Iwo Jima Photos: Japanese Dead, Crashed Planes, Nose Art, Tanks and so much more!
This incredible album captures Iwo Jima just after the battle with bodies still fresh on the ground. There are over 20 unpublished photos of Japanese dead. Many photos show the destruction and carnage that had just taken place with blown out gun positions and tanks. There are many photos of headstones of American graves. One of the most captivating photos to me is the photo of the World War Two bomber "Ramblin Roscoe" it was a B-29 bomber that crashed on Iwo Jima on April 16, 1945, after being hit during a mission over Tokyo. The aircraft, which was part of the 882nd Bomb Squadron/500th Bomb Group, was able to make a crash landing on the island, which had become an Allied emergency landing strip. During her crash landing, she hit a fuel truck, killing both occupants and injured two more sleeping in a tent.
This incredible album has 139 photos total.
