Triple-Armed Confederate Soldier w/ Star Belt Plate - Mississippi/Texas - Half Case Ambrotype
 
This exceptional ambrotype or tintype depicts a seated Confederate soldier, most likely from Mississippi or Texas. He wears a two-piece belt plate featuring a star device, a pattern associated with both Mississippi and Texas troops (similar star motifs also appear on buttons from these states). The soldier is notably triple-armed, holding a revolver in his right hand while a single-shot derringer pistol and a knife are tucked into his belt.
 
His attire is simple and utilitarian, consisting of a white shirt with sleeves rolled up, accented by a dark bowtie, and a distinctive wide-brimmed hat. The cheeks have been delicately hand-tinted, and a decorative gilt highlight appears beneath the bowtie. This is a particularly fine example of a heavily armed Deep South Confederate soldier displaying a scarce and distinctive belt plate.
