New Assistant Postmaster at Salina Chooses a Horrible Death
Salina, Kan., Aug. 6 --- Silas Seaman, whom Postmaster Fitzpatrick had just appointed as his assistant, committed suicide here yesterday afternoon. He met the Union Pacific passenger, which is due here at 4 o'clock, a little east of town, and as it approached him he walked toward the track, kneeled down, threw his umbrella over his shoulder and allowed the pilot to strike him on the head. The top of his head was crushed. It is rumored he was temporarily demented from ill health. He had been assistant postmaster only one week, and was highly respected. He leaves a wife and four young children.
