Rare CDV of Destroyed Richmond, Virginia by Tanner & Van Ness.
In April 1865, as Union forces approached, Confederate troops deliberately set fire to Richmond, Virginia, to destroy supplies and prevent them from falling into Union hands. The fire spread rapidly, devastating a large part of the city's commercial district. This photo captures this catastrophic damage done by the fires. I have been unable to find this image anywhere else in publications. Possibly showing an unpublished Burned Richmond image. The CDV does have wear but still an amazing rare image.
