Louisiana Confederate Letter Talking About Receiving Throat Surgery
Louisiana Confederate Letter from Theo. J. Dimitry Talking About Receiving Throat Surgery and likely a rare Civil War tonsillectomy.
Acorla April 3, 1863
Captain C. Thompson
Dear Sir, I am sorry to have to replace myself seriously ill. I am left facing from an ulcerated raw throat. I was once compelled to have a serious operation performed on my throat and tonsils and I am afraid that I shall be compelled to have the thing operated on once more. I hope however to be able to return to camp before the extension shall have expired. I am confident dear sir that you will show my regret that the trip from Richmond to Acorla took fifteen days and nearly half my furlough time and its performance. This was caused by (mapping?) conditions and accidents after the (road?) Goodman and Parham are about to return. They will start I believe tomorrow. With every respect for yourself and (?). I am.
Sincerely yours
Theo. J. Dimitry
Oblige me by informing my mess mates that with the exception of my throat disease. I enjoy throughly good health . I shall write to them at some early day.
Theo. J. Dimitry
