Okalona, Mississippi, May the 28, 1862
Dear Sister. I embrace this opportunity to wright you a few lines to let you know how I am getting along and wheir I am at this time. I am not in very good health at this time but I am improveing. I feel a goodeal better than I did a week or two ago. I hope these few lines may find you well and the relations generally. I was detailed out of the Regiment which is at corinth to guard baggage and to recruit up. I hav bin here one week to day. I hav not received any letters from home since home since I left. I am very anxious to hear from home it would make my heart rejoice to hear from you.
I wrote you a letter be fore I left home which is about three months ago. I left all of all of my business with Pa. I do not know how he is getting along since I left their. He has bin bad health some time. I voluntered for three years or the war. I dont know when I will get to go home. fit is the lords will for me to go home at all I put my trust in him that I may com thru saft. Sick soldiers have a hard time in this world. It seemes like they are not cared for. Camplife is a verry disagreeable one. There is a goodmany sick in camp and a goodmany deaths. I havenot heard from Cammy in a good while. I would be pleased to get one more letter from you but I cant tel you where to direct a letter to. I am here today but tomorrow I may be some wheir else and I may stay heir a week or too. I cant tell I may be ordered back to corinth. I would say to you you must wright as soon as you get this and give me the news in general. Direct your letter to Corinth Miss. Col.
