Sherwoods heroic actions and captures. "Bud captured a good six shooter and union rifle for which he was offered three thousand dollars in Confederate", "Bud had his horse shot and badley wounded".
To J.E. Sherwood
Dear son, I have received one letter
from you dated the 4 and one dated the 15th of this. Just was glad to here from you that you was well. J.E. I have been very a or two since I startrd to meeting to Farmersville last Friday went to you neighborhood that night and was at your house in the evening. You folks are well. They were thrushing your wheat.
Saturday morning went up to the meeting was taken very sick on the way and think I suffered so much that afternoon and night as I was suffering in the same length of time. in all my life I got easy next morning by 8 or 9 oclock. and in the afternoon made out to get to Brinkley and yesterday got home and today feel almost well but so weak I can hardly sit up that I think I will be well as usual in a few days. Your mother and friends is common health. T.E. Sherwood lost his youngest child last Tuesday night. She died of whoppin cough. Corn on the neighborhood of Hackwell is not turning out as well as expected. I had about 150 bushels on 10 acres about the best corn in the neighborhood. Tom will not yet get their new mill started. It will be ready in about one week. They say send as soon as you please for what flour you want and need not send the money. It is extremely worthless here. The most that probably be got for it here in any kind of property is 2 1/2 on the dollar if you can trade flour for leather and can trade for more that you need they will be glad you would trade for some of them.
Tho they say send and get what flour you want whether you get any leather for them or not. I have had letter from Bud as late as the 8th. Just he was unwell at the last late but able to be up He has been not long since in two very hard battles.
In one they killed and captured the whole layout about two hundred. Bud captured a good six shooter and union rifle for which he was offered three thousand dollars in confederate. In the other battle as attacked on Ft. Smith.
Bud had his horse shot and badley wounded. I have bought him another horse of the widow McReynolds. I had to pay one of my old cash notes for the horse.
The note called for $134. I could not buy a horse for confederate at any price.
They have had great revivals in Martin Ridge and still have they have over one hundred conversions.
May these revivals become universal and may all our sins be blotted and then universial peace will be restored.
Thomas says he will write in few days that you dear son may enjoy health and a continual scene of the devine forever and that if we never meet in time we met in the land of peace is the daily prayer of your aged and affectionate parents
Jeremiah and Sarah Sherwood
