Civil War Letter Jesse Adams 30th Indiana Infantry Died at Jefferson Barracks after being wounded at the battle of Shiloh.

January 20th 1862,

I take my pen in hand to answer your letter that I first received. I was glad to heard from you and hear that the founding folks are getting along fine. I expect the next letter soon. Wm will get married then live down East Ind then to go ahead. The soldier will get home sometime when they aren't thinking of them.

We feel pretty good here and we have to stand guard while the rest of his friends can sleigh ride. We have plenty of mud here. It is raining now and has been all day. I had to stand guard all day so you must excuse me for this time for I have got to be going on guard pretty soon. There is plenty of mud here for now. We have plenty to eat and drink and that is all I want at present.

If we should get into an engagement, I don't think I would get scared too much. When you write, you can tell me about the young folks. I wrote a letter to Sam but I haven't got an answer yet. The letter that you wrote, you wanted to know whether Daniel was alive or not. I forgot to tell you about it in the last letter and I will tell you something about him now. He is alive and well as can be. He expects to go home next week.

Write as soon as convenient

Excuse all mistakes for I was in a hurry. I have to go on Guard.

This from a friend
