My esteemed friend, your kind communication of the 5th (day?) with the nice edibles. You was so kind as to send me I can assure you that your present was highly appreciated by myself. (mesmerized?) I carried the four of July to Col. Henry as you requested with compliments he returns his all regards and instructs me to say to you that he is convalescent and daily improving also that he has written to you several times but supposes that they miss carried. I shall ever feel myself deeply indebted to you for your kind favors. I wrote to Miss (Lewis) acknowledging her nice present. You will please give this solely my compliments my health continues good. There is some talk of our army exchange soon. I hope it is true as I am limited. I will close helping to learn from you obtain in the mean time. I remain with much respect, your sincere friend W. E.
