8th Texas Infantry Co. I Letter from George W. Stevenson to Family
Civil War letter from Confederate Soldier George W. Stevenson who was a member of the 8th Texas Infantry Co. I to his family. The document is in great overall condition and is highly desirable being a great piece of Texas Confederate History.

June the 28, 1863
Mr. A Stevenson. Dear father. I seate miself to rite you a few lines to let yew of mi helth. I am well at presant and hope this ma come to han and finde you enjoying the same. I haveent anything of importence to rite times is harde hear beef cattle is worth S0 dol per head horses rats from 2 to 5 hundrd dol coffee fore dollars per pound tobaco 3 dolars a plug dry goods in perpotion. Father you rit to me that you wanted to by mi cattel I do not want to sel them I want you to sea Mrs. Woodard for me and tell her that I want her to take care of them til I can come home and I will satisfi hir for hir trouble and you wil oblige we wil leave her in a few days for some springs a bout 1 hundard miles a bove here wee blong to General Magders body garde and wee have to go with him. I must come to a close rite when this comes to han and fail not. I have not receaved a letter from you since I left thare direct your leter to Houston, Harris Co.

Dear mother and Sister. I have recvd 2 leters from you in the last weake dated march the 20 and may the 28 which gave me grate satisfactin to hear from youall. I havent any thing of importance to rite you for I anserd one of your letters a few days ago and gave you the nuse in it. You want me to have mi profile taken and sent it to you I am going to have it taken to day. I shal not send it from hear wee wil starte in a few dayes to the Peadmont Springs I am going to try to git leave to come home and se you all if I cant come I wil sende it from thare to you. I would be vry glad to see you all tho I cant promis you for sertain that I wil come before the war ends. Mother you rit to me that if I could come home that you could let me have some close. I would like very well to come tho I have as many close as I need at presant. Sister Elisabeth you wanted to no if I had forgot you. I have not I have rit to you often withot any anser tho I supose you never got them.
