George H. Pressey was a resident of Sutton and enlisted on July 29, 1864, at the age of 22 as a 2nd Lieutenant. On the same date, he mustered into Company H of the 1st New Hampshire Cavalry, a regiment engaged in operations in the Shenandoah Valley and surrounding regions late in the Civil War.
Due to health issues or wounds sustained during service, Pressey was discharged for disability on March 17, 1865, just weeks before the war ended.
He later died on October 8, 1877, in Concord.
