Alabama Confederate Infantry Captain
A 1/6th plate ambrotype of an unidentified
Confederate Captain out of Enterprise, Alabama. The officer's three stripes are easily seen on his collar. The jacket also has a sort of shoulder insignia as well. The buttons are ungilded, but because the focus is soft no device can be seen. It appears that he may have lost one or two buttons and may actually be holding the jacket closed. Enterprise is a city in Barbour County towards the southernmost part of the state. There were ten different infantry companies organized from the county including four in the 15th Alabama Infantry. It was the 15th AL that charged up Little Round Top at Gettysburg on July 2.
Perhaps this captain took part in that battle.
