1/9th Plate Ambrotype of a Young Confederate Soldier Wearing a Homespun Jacket

An exceptional 1/9th plate ambrotype featuring a young Confederate soldier clad in a distinctive homespun jacket. The garment is notable for its double rows of wooden buttons, with two prominently visible just below the soldier’s hand, before diverging into a subtle "V" pattern. The upper rows of buttons appear to be purely decorative, as there are no visible buttonholes.

Crude in construction yet striking in presentation, the jacket conveys a sense of both rugged simplicity and unexpected flamboyance, reminiscent of attire worn by Confederate guerrillas and partisans. The soldier's face and hands are lightly tinted, adding depth and vitality to the image. The photograph is housed in a complete, original leatherette case, preserving its historical integrity.
