1/6th Plate Tintype of a Union Soldier with Sharp Carbine – Half Leatherette Case
 
This sixth-plate tintype features a clear, portrait of a Union infantryman posed with his Sharp Carbine. The soldier seated, holding his rifle across his chest. 
 
The image shows good detail in the soldier’s uniform and equipment, particularly the carbine, which is sharply rendered. While the overall tone is slightly dark (a common characteristic of many tintypes from this period), the photograph displays very well when properly lit, especially in a lighted display case.
 
Housed in a half leatherette case, this tintype remains protected and ready for presentation. Full-standing images of soldiers openly displaying their rifles are desirable among collectors of Civil War photography.
 
A solid example of an armed Union infantryman that would make a fine addition to any collection of cased tintypes or soldier portraits.
