This charming sixth-plate daguerreotype features a beautifully hand-tinted portrait of a young child. The image displays rich, vibrant coloring typical of high-quality early photography, with delicate tinting applied to the child’s cheeks, clothing, and accessories, bringing the likeness to life.
 
The subject is clearly identified by a period inscription accompanying note as John B Anderson Raf's Grandfather. Such identified children’s daguerreotypes from the 1850s–early 1860s are increasingly scarce and highly sought after by collectors.
Housed in its original leatherette case, the daguerreotype remains visually striking despite the case having a split spine — a common and honest sign of age that does not affect the plate itself.
