1/6th Plate Ambrotype of a 1st SC Confederate. Identified as James Sylvester Curtis of South Carolina.Seated pose of James shown here dressed in a butternut 6 button South Carolina jacket.
James would muster in Company I "Richardson Guards" of McCreary's 1st South Carolina
Volunteer Infantry on July 20, 1861 in Richmond.
James not see an of the conflict. He would remain with the regiment for approximately a year before falling ill with Typhoid Fever just prior to the regiments participation in them first battle at Seven Daws.
In early June. 1862 James was admitted no
Chimborazo Hospital No. 3 in Richmond before being transferred to a Lynchburg hospital two weeks later.
Transferred once more to Charitv
Hospital in
Gordonsville. Virginia, he would eventually succumb to pneumonia on December 2 ,1862.
This one has two more modern tags from the 70's or early 80's on the back which read
"James Sylvester Curtis Brother to Ann Curtis Glen died Civil War 1862".
