1/4 Plate Tintype of Seated Union Soldier with Saber with Gilding on Kepi

1/4 Plate Tintype of a Seated Union Soldier with Saber Gilded kepi and sword; possible 24th Artillery insignia

A strong 1/4 plate tintype depicting a seated Union soldier holding his saber. The kepi and sword show period gilding. The soldier’s kepi appears to bear crossed cannons with the regimental number “24,” consistent with an artillery unit either New York, Indiana or Ohio. He is shown with long hair and a distinctive, intense expression.
The plate has a bend in the middle right that is largely obscured by the mat. Overall the image presents very well and retains strong visual appeal. Housed in a complete leatherette case.
