1/4 Plate Tintype of Group of Union Soldiers with Blue Tinting

1/4 Plate Tintype of a Group of Five Union Soldiers with Period Blue Tinting

A compelling 1/4 plate tintype depicting five Union soldiers carefully posed together in a studio setting. Two of the men clearly display corporal’s stripes on their sleeves, while several adopt the classic contemplative “thinking” pose popular in period portraiture—resting a hand against the face in a thoughtful attitude. The group is arranged with good depth and presence, creating a strong and engaging composition.

Attractive period blue tinting has been applied to the pants, adding color and visual interest that enhances the overall appeal of the image. The tintype itself remains in splendid condition, with excellent clarity, contrast, and surface integrity.

It is housed in a thermoplastic case that shows cosmetic issues and evidence of prior repairs, though the case still provides solid protection and presentation for the photograph.
